Brazilian boutique adds reinsurance partner

Julia Santoro de Camargo Donato joined the firm on 17 March from Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados, where she was an associate for seven years.

Donato, 34, has local and international experience with insurance, reinsurance and private pension plan transactions. Last year she was part of the Mattos Filho team assisting US private equity firm Hellman & Friedman when it bought a stake in global insurance broker Hub International, while in 2011 she advised Zurich Financial Services in its US$1.6 billion purchase of a majority stake in Santander's regional insurance business.

Partner Dinir Rocha set up the insurance boutique a year ago, when he leftAzevedo Sette Advogados along with three associates after identifying a gap in the market for a boutique firm with a focus on insurance, regulatory and business insurance. Since then the firm has added two associates to its claims and litigation department, following a rise in errors and omissions and surety bond claims, as well as insurer litigation cases.

The firm expects to make further hires depending on client demand.
